Folie à Deux

about

This song is taken from the psychological term that means “The madness of two” or “Share psychotic disorders”. In psychology, it’s a term used to describe when two separate people have the same exact delusions and act upon them. It’s a rare condition, but has been known to happen. Though this a rare condition, I imagine this happening inside of our own selves.
I think one of the reasons stories like Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” are so popular is because it’s such a close and personal thing that people really go through. People have demons, or other selves within themselves.
They often feel like they’re fighting another person inside themselves.

And what happens when that other person, the demon, convinces your better self that it’s the right one? Would you fall into madness?

I used what’s called the “Altered Scale” for inspiration to make it sound psychedelic or trippy. Like you’re falling into some kind of maddening illusion. I also used a lot of harmonies in this song to represent two sounds working together as one. But the one melody keeps subtly fighting to come back to the surface also in certain parts. Like a true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde experience. The good is trying to fight the bad.

But in the end, who wins?
