about

This entire cinematic Synthwave album is inspired by the novel The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov. It's a retro sci-fi, Neo-noir novel about robots, humans, the future and much more!

This novel was one of the first Asimov novels I ever read and ever since then, I was hooked on his scientific theories and sociological concepts about humanity and the future. Here's what the letters C and Fe in my album stand for and why they are important.

C (pronounced cee /‘si/ or See) - Carbon is referred to as the “king of the elements” and is the basis of human life.

Fe (Pronounced /fiː/ or Fee. From the Latin: ferrum) - Iron is the 4th most common element on earth and is the basis of robot life.

C/Fe expresses a culture which combines the best of two on an equal but parallel basis. It symbolizes neither one nor the other, but a mixture of the two without priority.

It’s a phrase used throughout Asimov’s concepts but was first introduced in The Caves of Steel. It’s an expression that’s used to signify humans (C) and robots (Fe) and advancing technologies in that category coexisting in an equal but parallel essence.

I based the album, not so much on the actual literal robots in the novel. But more so the relationship that humans have with robots, technologies and the questions you’d be faced with in a technologically advanced world. The album is mainly based on the atmospheres and ambience that is described in the novel.

Even though the novel was published in 1953’s, there are so many things we face today that Asimov brings up that I try hard to touch on musically in my album. I try to bring to life the marriage between technology, humanity and a dab of neonoir.

I hope you enjoy!
